High potential and gifted education

Some students may show high potential or giftedness in four domains: intellectual, creative, physical and social-emotional. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, problem solving, leadership or sport.

At our school, we recognise and nurture these strengths. We support advanced learners with great lessons and activities to help them grow and thrive.

Why choose us for your high potential or gifted child?

Recognising potential and developing talent

Our teachers find potential and nurture our students to be the best they can be.

Tailored lessons

Each student has different abilities. Teachers respond to each student’s ability by providing extra challenges and extension activities to keep learning exciting and engaging.

Rich opportunities and activities

Students can take part in opportunities to develop their talent in the arts, sport, leadership and more.

Opening doors to wider experiences

Our students can participate in a wide range of state-wide opportunities that aim to extend and enrich student potential.

What is high potential and gifted education?

High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.

We do this through:

Our high potential and gifted education opportunities

Our students engage with  HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.

In our classroom

At Jamisontown Public School, every learners' potential is our priority. We help support and encourage our students to grow their talent into something wonderful.

  • Our supportive classroom environments promote a sense of belonging and encourage fun, risk-taking, creativity and collaboration.
  • Our classroom practices support and extend high potential and gifted students.
  • Our teachers engage in professional learning to support the diverse needs of all students, including our high potential and gifted learners.
Across our school

At Jamisontown Public School we provide high quality teaching and learning activities and diverse opportunities for students to build and grow their strengths.

  • Our school offers a diverse range of opportunities across the 4 domains of potential: creative, intellectual, physical and social-emotional.
  • Our students, including high potential and gifted students, are encouraged to take on leadership roles through Year 6 school captains, student representative council and mentoring programs such as peer support, kindy buddies, library monitors, tech crew and sport house captains.
  • Student talent is celebrated and extended through creative and performing arts such as school musicals, Limelight Showcase, school dance groups, school choirs, Christmas concert and Operation Art.
  • Our students are fortunate to participate in many sporting opportunities including knockout representative teams, school athletics carnivals, cross country carnivals, swimming carnivals, sport gala and try days.
  • Opportunities are offered in the intellectual domain of high potential including Penrith Valley public speaking competition and in class differentiation for learning activities.
Across NSW
At Jamisontown Public School, our students participate in statewide programs to extend and enrich student potential. These include the Department of Education Premier's Reading Challenge and Premier's Sporting Challenge. Statewide and NSW Department of Education support is available for high potential and gifted students, and we help with entries, preparation and reflection so every experience feeds back into learning.
